Past Events

MARR, in conjunction with Resource Conservation Manitoba (RCM), has been a proud co-sponsor of several provincial waste reduction conferences, including:

"Breaking the Barriers - Waste Reduction Into the New Millennium" ~ June 1998.

"The Ecology of Waste Reduction - Stewardship and Sustainability" ~ April 2000.

"Turning Green to Gold - Solid Waste Management & Reduction" conference in Brandon, MB in April 2003. This prestigious event had a wider Western Canadian focus, as it also served as the annual conference for the Solid Waste Association of North America (SWANA) Canadian Prairie Chapter, with MARR, RCM and the City of Brandon welcomed aboard as regional partners and co-hosts. It was also the first opportunity for a smaller market location to be the host city of such an industry-wide event.

The conference was very well attended, with many positive comments from participants and presenters alike. Sessions covered topics ranging from a panel discussion on the sustainability of regional programs to backyard and centralized composting initiatives. The tour component showcased a regional transfer station, a demonstration of local landfill operations and the ribbon cutting for Westman Recycling Council's $3.7 million Material Recovery Facility. A productive industry trade show and an entertaining round of social events completed the conference experience.
